System (D) – SOMAY/Vandex "Super"
Vandex Super is a dry cementitious powder mixture of rapid-hardening portland cement, specially treated quartz sand, and a compound of active inorganic
chemicals. When mixed with clean water and then applied to clean, sound cement surfaces with "open" pores, Vandex, by capillary/crystallization action, will chemically seal the pores and create permanent
in-depth waterproofing and protection of the concrete. Vandex can be applied to the positive or negative pressure side of a tank or wall with equal effectiveness, and resists hydrostatic pressure (tested to 486
ft. head pressure). Color: Cement Gray. Note: "White" available by Special Order at extra cost. Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be moist (damp) at time of application
Fully Cured Concrete: Sandblast to SSPC-SP6 (Commercial Blast) or 4,000 P.S.I.water blast.
Mix ratio: 5:2 = 5 parts Vandex mixture to 2 parts clean water (by volume). Recommended Coverage Rate:
Concrete Walls: Min. 1.4 lbs./sq. yard (.75 kg/sq.m./coat) or 320 sq.ft./50-lb. Vandex per coat; 2 coats recommended (2nd coat applied while 1st
is "green") (= 30.3 sq.m./22.7 kg./coat) Concrete Slabs: Min. 2 lbs./sq. yard (1.0kg/sq.m.) or 225 sq.ft./50-lb. Vandex. One coat recommended (= 22.7 sq.m./22.5 kg./one coat).
Provides approximately 50 mils coating thickness. Pot Life: 20 minutes Setting Time: 60 minutes Cure Time: Keep damp for min. 5 days (120 hours). Water
tanks can be carefully filled after 3 days (72 hours) Cost (9/1/06): "Cash & Carry", F.O.B. SOMAY: $134.95/50-lb. pail of Vandex Super. "Cement Gray". Applied at 300 sq.ft./pail for
one (1) coat = approx. 42¢/sq.ft. for 1 coat. Applied at 150 sq.ft./pail for two (2) coats = approx. 84¢/sq.ft. for 2 coats.
System (E) –
SOMAY/Sanchem "NO-OX-ID" "A Special WW" (= Water Works)
1-component, blend of petroleum waxes and oils, sometimes referred to as a "grease coating". Contains very effective corrosion inhibitors to arrest
existing corrosion and to provide a rust preventive barrier coating. Produces a non-drying, flexible, plastic-like film which will NOT crack, chip or peel, so it is long lasting, needing minimum
maintenance for many years of effective service. Self-priming and self-healing. Appearance: Light to Dark Brown wax. Total Volume Solids: 80% min; Total Solvent: 20% max.
Surface Preparation: Use hand scraping or brushing or power driven brush to remove any loose rust or mill scale; or prepare per SSPC-SP6 (Commercial Blast)
Theoretical Coverage Rate: 1,283 sq.ft./gal./1 mil DFT Recommended Application Rate: 20 to 30 mils total dry film thickness or 43 sq.ft. for 30 mils (762 microns) DFT
or 64 sq.ft. for 20 mils (508 microns) DFT Can be applied in one coat by hand (mitt covered), brush, roller or spray.
(Note: Heat product to melting point (approx. 160° to 170° F) in order to spray apply. Cure Time: Water tanks can be put back in service in 24 hours. Cost (9/1/06): "Cash &
Carry", FOB SOMAY: $109.95/5-gal. pail (35 lbs.) (= $21.99/gal) = approx. 51¢/sq. ft. @ 30 mils DFT, or approx. 34¢/sq.ft. @ 20 mils DFT.
For all systems, all numbers are theoretical based on application to smooth, non-porous surfaces (like glass) and assume 100% transfer efficiency. User must allow for losses in mixing and
application and less than theoretical coverage rate due to rough, porous surfaces, etc. All prices subject to change without notice. Price in effect on date of shipment will apply.
