        RECOMMENDED SOMAY PAINTS

For a Premium Quality Paint Job

On the Exterior Wood Trim of a Typical Florida Building

Preparation:

All surfaces to be painted MUST be properly prepared.  Anything that could adversely affect the
proper adhesion of the paint to the surface MUST be completely removed, including old
powdering or chalking paint. All old paint MUST be firmly attached to the wood. Complete,
thorough cleaning of the entire surface area to be repainted is required. The surface MUST be
free of mildew, mold, fungus and any trace of oily residue, such as hand or finger prints on
doors, etc.   All glossy surfaces MUST be sanded or treated with liquid sandpaper.

(A) For an all Waterborne (i.e. "Water Clean-Up") Paint System

    First Coat: (Prime Coat)

SOMAY Product No. 553-01 - ACRYLIC LATEX PRIMER/UNDERCOATER (White).
Exterior/Interior.  Can be used on primed or unprimed wood surfaces because of the
oil emulsion in the formulation.  Apply at the rate of 325 sq.ft./gal. for a 2 mil dry film
thickness on a smooth, non-porous surface.

    Finish Coat:  (100% Acrylic Latex)

      (1) SOMAY Product No. 8630 - SOMAY "STERI-SHIELD" Fungistatic Paint (White), a
very unique, 100% Acrylic Latex, Heavy-Duty, Industrial Strength coating that is the
most resistant of any paint to the growth of mold and mildew on its surface.  Apply to
a properly prepared, smooth, non-porous surface at a spreading rate of 362 sq.ft./
gal. to develop a 2 mil dry film thickness, at an approx. cost of 6¢/sq.ft.  For much
longer durability, use two (2) finish coats, totaling 4 mils, which will cost approx.
      12¢/sq.ft.

      (2) SOMAY Product No. 383 - "PREMIUM" Acrylic Latex EGGSHELL FINISH (White
and pastel custom colors available).  Apply at the rate of 265 sq.ft./gal. for a 2 mil dry
film thickness on a smooth,non-porous surface.

      (3) SOMAY Product No. 630 - "PREMIUM" Acrylic Latex SEMI-GLOSS ENAMEL,

      non-porous surface.

(B) Alternative for an all Solvent Borne (i.e. "Solvent Clean-Up") Paint System:

dry film thickness on a smooth, non-porous surface.

      Finish Coat:

      (1) SOMAY Product No. 237 - POLYURETHANE HIGH GLOSS ENAMEL.  (White
and full range of custom colors available).  Apply at the rate of 405 sq.ft./gal. for a
2 mil dry film thickness on a smooth, non-porous surface.

NOTES:

A 100% Acrylic Resin paint can be used on primed or unprimed wood, and is the most resistant
to Ultraviolet Light (sun) degradation so that it will be the most durable system in tropical climates.

There is no such thing as a "good" one-coat paint job.  All "good" paint jobs require a minimum of
two (2) coats of paint.  In order to achieve the best results, remember that two thin coats, 2 mils
thickness each, are always preferable to one thick coat.

In order to achieve satisfactory results, please be sure to use each paint or coating as it is
provided by the manufacturer; do NOT thin. Thinning paint always reduces the percentage
of volume solids, reduces the percentage of resin solids, reduces the percentage of pigments,
the percentage of mildewcide, bactericide, fungicide, etc., which will adversely affect the
adhesion, durability, hiding ability, etc. of the applied product.

All Somay "Premium" quality paints contain the MAXIMUM amount of mildewcide, bactericide and
fungicide allowed by law and EPA regulations to inhibit the growth of mildew on the painted
surfaces.

The more Gloss or Sheen a coating has, the more durable, longer lasting, and the more resistant
it will be to dirt pick-up and mildew or fungus growth developing on the surface. However, a Gloss
Finish may highlight surface imperfections, should there be any, whereas a Flat Finish may
help to camouflage surface imperfections
