System A – Good Surface Preparation
Remove all rust by hand preparation to have a clean, rust free, firm surface. All Alkyd (oil) Based Paint System (Not recommended over galvanized coatings)
All single-component paints – no mixing of parts A & B prior to application.
First Coat: SOMAY Product No. 636 – Ferrous Metal Primer, made to U.S. Fed. Govt. Spec. TT-P-636 (Red Oxide Color). Rust Inhibitive. Apply at max. 365 sq. ft./gal. to develop
a min. of 2 mils DFT. Second Coat: SOMAY Product No. 237 – Polyurethane High Gloss Enamel (White) – Standard stock color. Apply at max. 407 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT. Third Coat: SOMAY Product No. 237 – Polyurethane High Gloss Enamel (White) – Standard stock color. Apply at max. 407 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT.
Durability: This system is estimated at 4-5 years durability on exterior exposure to salt sea air in a tropical climate.
System B – Fair to Good Surface Preparation
All loose rust/scale removed by hand preparation. Need "surface tolerant" prime coat to go over rusty but firm surfaces.
First Coat: SOMAY/Carboline Rustbond Universal Primer/Tie coat surface tolerant coating (Clear) 2-component epoxy. Apply at max. 786 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT.
Second Coat: Product No. 8630, SOMAY "Steri-Shield" Fungistatic Paint. Note, has rust inhibitive properties, 100% acrylic latex enamel (eggshell finish), "Pure White" (stock color).
Apply at max. 368 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT. Third Coat: Product No. 8630, SOMAY "Steri-Shield" Fungistatic Paint. 100% acrylic latex enamel (eggshell finish), "Pure
White" (stock color). Apply at max. 368 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT.
Durability: This system is estimated at 6-8 years durability on exterior exposure to salt sea air in a tropical climate. NOTE: SOMAY 8630 is a Direct t
o Metal (DTM) coating, excellent for use over galvanized coatings.
System C – Fair to Good Surface Preparation
This is an all epoxy Corrosion Inhibitive System. All loose rust/scale removed by hand preparation. Need "surface tolerant" prime coat to go over rusty but firm surfaces.
First Coat: SOMAY/Carboline Rustbond Universal Primer/Tie Coat surface tolerant coating (Clear) 2-component epoxy. Apply at max. 786 sq. ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT.
Second Coat: SOMAY/Carboline 890 – High gloss, high-build, high solids epoxy. 2-component; 1:1 mix ratio (Part A : Part B). White. Apply at max. 241 sq. ft./gal. to develop minimum 5 mils DFT.
Durability: This system is estimated at 8-10 years durability on exterior exposure to salt sea air in a tropical climate.
Note: Exposed epoxy coating will lose gloss and "chalk" on exterior exposure.
System D – Superior Surface Preparation
Sandblast to SSPC-SP-6 – Commercial sandblast to completely remove all rust and corrosion, for a totally clean, firm surface prior to application of any coating. Apply coating promptly before steel surface
has an opportunity to start corroding again.
First Coat: SOMAY/Carboline 890 – High gloss, high-build, high solids epoxy. 2-component; 1:1 mix ratio (Part A:Part B). White. Apply at max. 241 sq. ft./gal. to develop
minimum 5 mils DFT. Second Coat: SOMAY/Carboline 134HG – Aliphatically cured, Acrylic Polyurethane, high gloss, high solids finish coat. 2-component, 4:1 mix ratio (Part A:Part B),
White stock color. Apply at max. 561 sq.ft./gal. to develop min. 2 mils DFT.
Note: This coating has exceptional resistance to weathering and normally will keep its glossy look for many years. Durability: This system is estimated at 10-12 years durability
on exterior exposure to salt sea air in a tropical climate.
Note: All spreading rates are theoretical, based on Total Volume Solids and assume 100% transfer efficiency to a very smooth, non-porous surface that has been properly prepared. Customer must make
proper allowances for less than perfect theoretical conditions .April 1, 2010 |
